After barely surviving the worst flooding in nearly a decade in Venice, I excitedly arrived in Rome hoping for an opportunity to salvage the last leg of a month long journey through Europe. I was ready for some jam-packed sightseeing, an endless stream of wine and delicious dishes that would put me in food coma. One restaurant during my 4 day stay in Rome delivered such an exceptional experience, I ate dinner there not once but twice. Meet one of Rome’s newest and highest rated restaurants in the city, CiPASSO.
CiPASSO opened early in 2018 and is currently the #6th highest rated restaurant in Rome on Trip Advisor. It might be a little shocking how fast they’ve climbed to the top being so new but not too long after being seated for dinner, I quickly found out why.
Our waitress greeted my friends and I warmly with a smile, good conversation and some of the best damn green olives ever. My friend Matty still isn’t over how good those olives were. The dining room is small, cozy and features a cool brick wall that adds a nice element and balance to the room. The decor and ambiance is on point.
The menu is well priced with a great balance of Italian and Mediterranean cuisine. It’s worth noting they have vegan, vegetarian and gluten-free options available. Any foodie will certainly find something to enjoy.
We started off with a charcuterie plate. Light, flavorful and features local cheeses that are exclusive to CiPASSO and few restaurants in the city.
For my entrée I ordered the smoked swordfish. The dish included orange, olives, arugula, fennel and of course the star of the dish, thinly sliced smoked swordfish. Holy f*ck. What a delicious combination of flavors. I loved it so much I ate it for dinner the next night too. It’s worth noting that my friends both ordered the lasagna and absolutely loved it.
After we wrapped up our entrées I remember sitting there for a few minutes trying to soak in the explosions of flavor that just took place. During that time the owner stopped by our table to greet us and make sure we were satisfied. That we were. Out of an entire month of traveling across Europe, CiPASSO hands down delivered the best overall dining experience during the trip. Without a doubt CiPASSO delivers an exceptional dining experience highlighted by great service and flavor combinations that keep you dreaming for more. And with that I leave you with an awesome quote found on the wall at CiPASSO’s;
“A meal without wine is like a day without sun.”I wholeheartedly agree.
CiPASSO is conveniently located in the heart of Rome not too far from the Pantheon and Fontana di Trevi, roughly a 5-10 minute walk from either. Before you check out this banging restaurant for yourself, there are a few things to note. Most importantly, CiPASSO is said to take reservations over the phone but I haven’t been able to find a place online. They get busy and only have a small amount of tables, plan accordingly. Open hours are 12pm – 12am, Monday – Sunday. Like most restaurants, CiPASSO offers free WiFi.
