Kanha: A Jaipur Hot Spot for Indian Food and Treats

If you’re traveling to Jaipur, you have to pay a visit to Kanha at least once.

After nearly two full days of traveling, my two friends and I finally arrived in Jaipur by train. We were picked up by our friend who got in the night before. Apparently, she had an amazing experience over the course of 24 hours in Jaipur without us! One highlight of her day prior was a visit to Kanha, by recommendation of her hostel’s staff.

She raved about her hostel and the folks who work there (more on that later!) so we took her advice and swapped our plans to stay there too. We made the right choice. Because soon after checking in, the owner offered to take us to one his favorite places to experience a variety of Indian food. All 5 of us then crammed into his little car to head over to – yep – Kanha.

While it didn’t seem that astounding (or even like a restaurant!) from the exterior, of course it’s what’s inside that counts. The interior feels like a cafeteria, food is served deli-style, and there is plenty of seating inside the building.

The Food at Kanha

We let our hostel owner (and on this day, part tour guide!) choose the dishes and he recommended we share them family-style. Every single dish was more amazing than the next. Looking back after spending 3 weeks in India, Kanha was one of my favorite places for a great meal. I just wish we had a chance to go back a second time.

The Treats at Kanha

Aside from the delicious entrees, Kanha has an unbelievable variety of baked goods, desserts and Indian sweet treats! They also serve Lassi, a traditional Indian yogurt drink. Lassi is usually topped with fruit and seasoned with spices. It’s served at Kanha the old-fashioned way, in clay cups, which gives it an extra boost of flavor and character.

If you have a chance to stop at Kanha while visiting Jaipur, I definitely recommend getting a meal here and taking home some treats as well. There are 3 locations, and below is the location I visited.

When I'm not traveling, you can probably find me drinking coffee or riding a bike around town. I love going to new places and learning as much as possible about history and culture. Even more so, I try to learn about and raise awareness to local grassroots efforts in the areas I am visiting. I believe that communities hold the answers to their trials and I seek to support those efforts however I can. My goal is to never stop learning, always checking my privilege and try to make the world a better place.
